Burst water main shuts road
A key road between Fintry and Balfron was forced to close as engineers worked all-out to repair a burst water main.
Scottish Water shut the B818 on Wednesday afternoon following the leak.
And its team carried out investigations to establish the cause of the burst yesterday (Thursday).
There was no disruption to water supply to surrounding properties, despite the burst during the unfortunate incident.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said:“Once investigations have been completed, the road will be reopened and engineers will be back on site early evening (Thursday) to carry out the repair work.
“A road closure will be necessary for the duration of that work and diversions will be put in place.
“No disruption to water supply is expected.
“Scottish Water would like to thank local residents and commuters for their patience and understanding whilst this essential repair work is carried out.”
No time scale for the completion of the work has yet been given, but Scottish Water says that the work will be done as quickly as possible and the road closure lifted at the earliest opportunity.
Scottish Water bosses had hoped that the route would re-open by this morning (Friday).
A diversion route was put in place, via the A875, A811, B8037, B822 and vice versa.
Parents of pupils at Balfron High were notified that the closure will affect school bus services.
The 513 service will go via Buchlyvie and the A811, and will turn at the top of Kippen during the works.
Pupils travelling beyond Kippen must get the 507 service.
In the morning, pupils from Fintry will need to leave Fintry Cross at 8am to go back via Kippen, then on to the High school for 8.40am.
Any pupils who would normally get off between Blackhill cross roads and Fintry Cross must get on the 916 service which goes via Honeyholm.
