David joins team at Wallace Monument
The charity which operates the Wallace Monument has appointed a new member to its board of directors.
Stirling District Tourism has announced that Dr David Mitchell will take up the role at the monument ahead of the celebrations to mark its 150th anniversary next year.
As director of conservation at Historic Environment Scotland Dr Mitchell is currently responsible for the conservation of over 300 sites across the country.
He was also appointed as an honorary professor at the University of Stirling last year.
And having grown up in Stirling he admits he’s had an affiliation with the monument from a young age, and is committed to ensuring the city’s architectural heritage is valued and protected.
He said:“I look forward to being part of the important team behind caring for the international icon that is The National Wallace Monument, allowing it to be enjoyed by today’s visitors and by future generations for years to come.”Zillah Jamieson, chair of the monument’s board of directors, added: “This is an important appointment to the board at a time when the charity is working with Stirling Council on a number of conservation and development projects.
“David is a fantastic asset to the team, not only does he bring his expertise in Scotland’s built heritage, a personal interest in The National Wallace Monument, but also expertise in the application of digital technologies.
“Next year, we look forward to marking The NationalWallace Monument’s 150th anniversary, when, as well as celebrating this significant landmark, we will be laying the foundations for the next 150 years of keeping the Wallace legacy alive.”
