Rugby ace jogs memories
Former Scotland rugby star Kevin McKenzie was the guest speaker at the latest meeting of Stirling County Memories Group.
The 50-year-old from Stirling was capped 14 times for his country – taking part in the 1995 World Cup.
And during the latest memory group meeting at Bridgehaugh last Tuesday, he reflected on his life and career in the game.
He spoke about winning the Scottish Championship with Stirling and his famous try against Ireland and Lansdowne Road in Dublin.
Another highlight was playing against and gaining the respect of his hero, All Blacks captain and legend Sean Fitzpatrick.
Many onlookers, and those within the game, admire his fierce drive to maximise his potential.
His recuperation from a serious neck injury, and return to playing against the odds, showed his immense inner strength.
Kevin rounded off the session by answering questions on his career.
There were also contributions about the old Forth Valley select team with the fond memories of Iain McKay and Hamish Logan.
After that the group watched a video of an international charity match from the 1970s which led them to wonder if changes to the laws had improved the game.
The Stirling County group aims to stimulate memories through sporting debate and discussion.
It is hoped that some of the team photographs and memorabilia brought to meetings will be provided for inclusion in the national sports archive.
The next meeting is in the clubhouse from 1pm on Tuesday March 13.
