Police visit pair 61 times
‘Don’t contact ex’
A Doune man was ordered to stay away from his former partner after it was revealed police were called more than 60 times over incidents during their relationship.
Iain Barrie, 40, appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday after admitting to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by acting aggressively while attending his ex-partner’s home address, in Graham Street, Doune, last year.
At around 2.15pm on October 26, Barrie turned up at the home of his former partner, Fiona Gillespie. Ms Gillespie refused to open the door and instead opened a window to talk to him.
Barrie, whose address is listed in court papers as King Street, Doune, put his arm through the open window and said Ms Gillespie was “fearful for her safety”.
Defence agent, Virgil Crawford, said the pair had previously been in a longstanding relationship.
Mr Crawford said: “Ms Gillespie had come to his house the day before and his phone had gone missing. He had been trying to get it back.”
Sheriff William Gilchrist noted no fewer than 61 vulnerable person reports to the police over the course of the relationship. Sheriff Gilchrist said: “The extent of the police involvement is quite extraordinary
“You quite clearly have a relationship with Ms Gillespie and it’s not in your interest and it’s not in her interest.” Barrie was placed on a community payback order requiring him to be under supervision for a year. He was also ordered not to contact Ms Gillespie.
