Farewell show for the Schubert Ensemble
After more than three decades at the forefront of British chamber music the world-renowned Schubert Ensemble have announced their last season.
And they will say farewell to audiences in Stirling with a special performance at the Tolbooth on Saturday March 10.
The ensemble leave behind a significant legacy and can look back on many highlights from their 35year career.
Touring has taken them to major cities around the world – including Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles and Amsterdam – but also to unlikely venues in places such as Guatemala, Malta and Lebanon.
In the recording studio they have produced more than 25 critically acclaimed albums of repertoire ranging from Brahms and Mendelssohn to John Woolrich and Judith Weir.
And they also championed previously neglected masterpieces by composers such as Enescu, Martinu, Chausson, Farrenc, Korngold and Vaughan Williams.
In 1998 their contribution to music in the UK was recognised with the Royal Philharmonic Society’s best chamber group award, for which they were shortlisted again in 2010.
Educating, supporting and working with young musicians is another priority of the ensembles. They have previously carried out more than 500 workshops with young people around the world.
Their farewell season, which ends with a final concert on June 30, has seen the ensemble return to many of their favourite venues, giving opportunities for their five members to say thank you and goodbye to many of the good friends they have made down the years.
The Stirling show will get underway at 8pm, with tickets priced at £14/12/10. Go to culturestirling.org/events.
