Endrick keep up promotion push

Hosts come out of cold storage to grab win

- Donald Morton

Strathendrick ..66 Clydebank .......... 3 Strathendrick stayed in BT West League Two promotion contention with a thumping win over their oldest rivals at Fintry.

It was their first match in five weeks, but they showed no ring rustiness, putting the Bankies to the sword in a 10-try demolition.

In just five minutes Ewan Mackay touched down for the opening try and Kyle Campbell added the first of eight conversions. Clydebank camped in Endrick’s 22 for a spell but the home defence was secure and a penalty in 12 minutes was their only points.

But from then on it was one-way traffic.

Midway through the half Neil Callander battered his way through for a try before Kyle Campbell added a third.

With 10 minutes of the half remaining, the try bonus was pocketed as Fraser Graham was on the end of a move.

Ahead 26-3, Endrick refused to ease off and tries followed by James Ogilvy and Doug Beaumonth. MacKay added his second try of the match in 53 minutes and from the restart the ball was won by Scott Ross and he powered home for Endrick’s eighth try of the day.

Campbell’s conversion took the Endrick score past the 50-mark but there was still more to come.

Andy Nixon joined the scorers with a good run and four minutes from the end Mark Scott bulldozed his way over.

Campbell added his eighth kick to make the final score 66-3. Endrick: Anderson; Black, Graham, Carswell, McLaughlin; Campbell, Doyle; O’Connell, Gibson, Scott, MacKay, Moore, Ogilvy, Nixon and Callander, Replacements: Doug Beaumont, Connor, Forsyth, Ross andTacquet.

Endrick 2nds were also engaged at Fintry against a Clydebank side in a much closer contest where, in spite of a rousing finish, the Fintry men were unable to grab a winner losing 15-12 to the league leaders.

Before Saturday’s league matches at Fintry all the players, officials and spectators joined in observing a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for Ken Kilgour, a former player, ex-President, coach, loyal supporter and genuinely good companion who died last week.
