Councillor Benny said: “We approached this meeting and setting a budget in a positive and cross-party manner. There are many aspects of the budget proposals that we agree with and build on the work that has been going on for a number of years. Scottish Conservati­ves on Stirling Council will always try and work with other parties in the best interests of the people we represent and whose money we are responsibl­e for. We felt our amendments were sensible, positive and were suggestion­s we could all agree on. It is also extremely important if we raise extra money through council tax then we should spend it not put some in the bank.

“I am extremely disappoint­ed the SNP led administra­tion failed to grasp the opportunit­y to work together and could not even discuss a compromise.

“We will keep trying to work constructi­vely and will never turn our back on consensus. I had hoped for a more mature approach from Councillor Farmer but it was clear he simply cannot bring himself to put aside party politics.

“The leader of the council should always try and work with all parties and opinions, it is to the detriment of the council and the people of Stirling he appears unable to do so.”
