The Proclaimers show sells out in minutes

- Robert Fairnie

Scottish musical icons The Proclaimers have announced their return to Stirling – with tickets for the show already sold out.

Twins Charlie and Craig Reid will entertain a lucky audience with their most famous hits from down the years at the Albert Halls on Friday, December 14, as part of a bumper new tour.

They will be joined on-stage by a yet-to-be-announced support act on the night.

The show, which sold out in minutes, will extend the band’s long-lasting bond with music fans in the city – having previously played a famous Stirling Castle Hogmanay show – in addition to numerous other gigs in the area down the years.

The Fifers rose to prominence in the late 1980s after appearing on British pop music TV programme The Tube on Channel Four.

Their single Letter from America peaked at number three in the UK Singles Chart and their debut album This Is the Story was a top seller.

Their follow-up album Sunshine on Leith featured singles I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), I’m On My Way and title track Sunshine on Leith – all of which have gone on to become anthems.

A well-known stage musical featuring their songs called Sunshine on Leith was created in 2007 and adapted as a feature film bearing the same name in 2013.

The upcoming UK and Ireland tour will see the twins play a total of 39 dates on top of the summer festival appearances already announced. Their new album is set to be recorded in the spring with a summer release date expected.

Doors for the Stirling show will open at 7pm and under-16s should be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. The standing area is for those over 14 only, with reserved seating upstairs and general admission standing downstairs.

Tickets went on sale last Friday.
