Perilsof A85and residents exiting

- Alastair McNeill

Crianlarich residents and businesses situated on the busy A85 road warn they cannot exit their properties safely due to the speed limit on the road.

The properties to the east of the village are just beyond the end of the 30mph limit, on a 400m stretch of the road.

The premises include the Ben More Lodge Hotel on the north side and the Inverardran Guest House on the south.

John Christie, who owns Inverardran Guest House, said: “It’s more an issue coming out of the village.

“The problem is impatient drivers.

“A lot of people put their foot down as soon as the 30mph zone ends to reach the 60mph mark.

“Some vehicles go past in excess of 80 mph.

“Vehicles will overtake at that point if they can.

“My wife experienced a rear-end collision about 10 years ago.

“The car had to be written off.”

Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford has written to Transport Scotland to urge them to consider a speed ‘buffer’ on the A85 after constituents got in touch about near misses at the spot in the village.

Mr Crawford said the ‘buffer’ would help villagers merge safely onto the road.

He said: “I wholly back the idea of a speed buffer on this stretch of the A85, which includes a concentrated number of residential and properties connected to the tourism industry.

“Concerns were raised with me by constituents that a 60mph zone in this area is not suitable.

“I have seen the positive impact that the speed buffer in Strathyre has had and I have made representations to Transport Scotland to ask them to commit to exploring all available options to progress this proposal.

“The safety of residents and tourists is absolutely paramount.

“I trust Transport Scotland will view this request with all the seriousness that it deserves.”
