Monday, March 5 Caley Marts Ltd had forward 218 store and breeding cattle and 212 store sheep. Due to weather conditions, less numbers forward and many more could have been sold to the large ringside of buyers. In the March Show and Sale, the overall champion came from J and D Mitchell, Offers, Gargunnock with a Charolais Heifer weighing 420kg, selling to £1110 to the judge, J Watson, Pityot, Stonehaven. Reserve champion went to R McNee Ltd, Woodend, Armadale with a Limousin Heifer weighing 495kg selling to £1140. Store bullocks averaged 233p pkg selling to 300p pkg from G Stewart, Wester Whin, Slamannan and to £1220 from AL and J Blair, East Kerse, Lochwinnoch. Store heifers averaged 222p pkg selling to 265p pkg from Ardtalla Estates, Isle of Islay and to £1140 twice from J and J Graham, Mains of Burnbank, Blairdrummond and R McNee Ltd, Woodend. A good show of sheep forward considering weather conditions with 2045 prime hoggs averaging 218p pkg (+6.4p pkg on the week) (+50p on the year). Many export hoggs (39-43kg) were selling in excess of 230p pkg. Top price of the day went to Doune Farms for a 59kg Beltex at £120 and top price per kg went to R Downie, Newton of Crathie for an outstanding pen of 44kg Beltex at 264p pkg.
