BINOS CHASE WINS IN A ROW

But league leaders Peterhead will be tall order

- David Ogilvie

Stirling Albion are going for six wins in a row when they face Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Peterhead at Forthbank tomorrow.

Dave Mackay’s men are keen to return to action after their last three games against Edinburgh City, Berwick Rangers and Elgin City were all postponed due to the bad weather.

Peterhead’s most recent outing came against Clyde at Balmoor 10 days ago and their 2-1 victory saw Jim McInally’s team move above Montrose on goal difference. Albion are 10 points behind the leading pair but have two games in hand and a win tomorrow would keep their title hopes alive.

One of the highlights of Albion’s season was a 4-2 triumph at Peterhead in August but they lost 4-3 on their return visit in January and also lost 1-0 to the Blue Toon at Forthbank in December.

Peterhead have won their last two matches, having drawn three on the trot before that, and have an outstanding away record. The title favourites have won 10 of their 14 road trips, scoring 35 goals into the bargain as they seek an immediate return to League 1.

It promises to be a fascinating encounter, with Stirling having won all five home matches in 2018 despite struggling for form at Forthbank through the autumn and early winter.

Binos boss Mackay will again be without midfield duo Sean Dickson and Andy Black – whose broken collar bone may well keep him out for the rest of the season – but he is relishing the return to action for the first time since the 2-1 win over Clyde a fortnight ago.

He said: “It’s a big game and one we probably need to win if we are to have a realistic chance of catching Peterhead. They beat us up there the last time we played and 4-3 sounded like an exciting game but it was a farce in the wind and most of the goals came from mistakes.

“Peterhead won here in December but there wasn’t that much in the game, although we didn’t play well.

“We were going through a poor run at the time and we are a different team now. Our home form has been excellent recently.

“The boys are confident and we want to maintain the momentum we had before the bad weather”

Albion face seven games in just 22 days as the fixtures pile up and head for Berwick on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm, for the first of three midweek matches in a row.
