IPad station boosts library
A community project has brought a new communal iPad station to Cowie Library thanks to a £1500 funding grant.
The library now boasts four iPads as well as two OSMO kits, a unique educational gaming accessory, as well as a host of pre–loaded learning apps aimed to improving literacy, numeracy and problem solving skills.
The community project was created and organised by members of Cowie Primary Parent Council and has been financially supported by Stirling Council’s Community Grant Scheme. The sum of £1500 was awarded.
The technology is available to all members of the Cowie community from nursery and primary aged children to secondary pupils, in order to support homework and learning opportunities.
In addition, members of the adult learning, universal credit and employment support groups will have the opportunity to use these resources to facilitate their learning requirements.
If successful as a resource the parent council and library would like to extend the project with more IT resources and digital workshops.
Stirling Council’s Digital Library Service may consider rolling out the model to support further hubs across the Stirling Area.
Joanne Boyle, from the Cowie Parent Council, said:“This is a fantastic opportunity for the community and is a valuable resource for our local library. We would urge all members of the community to visit the library and take a look at the new facility for themselves. Its wonderful to see the children using this type of technology which is both novel and tactile in its approach to learning.”
