Bannedfor speeding onM80

-

Police say a Plean man put lives at risk by driving at speed through roadworks on the M80.

Brendan Abraham was banned from the roads for 18-months and hit with a 100-hour community payback order when he appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last week.

The 38-year-old was convicted of dangerous driving after ignoring warnings and driving his Ford Mondeo through a closed section of the road on Thursday, July 6 last year.

Abraham was said to be approaching the carriageway resurfacing works on the motorway, north of Junction 7, Haggs, when workers attempted to flag him down.

However he ignored their attempts and continued to drive at speed through the roadwork areas.

Police were contacted and, as a result of their inquiries, Abraham was later traced and charged under Section 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1998.

Inspector Andrew Thomson of Forth Valley Road Policing Division hopes the lengthy ban dished out to the dangerous driver will deter people from behaving in such a way.

He said:“The reckless behaviour of Brendan Abraham while behind the wheel of his vehicle put not only his own life, but the lives of road workers at risk.

“He showed an utter disregard for the safety of those working on the site and his lengthy ban from driving should serve as a strong reminder to all road users to abide by road works signage at all times.”
