Ex-smokers are being asked to tell health bosses how they quit the weed in a campaign to encourage others to do the same.

The appeal coincides with No Smoking Day today (Wednesday) and people are asked to explain how they rid themselves of the nicotene habit on NHS social media.

Board Stop Smoking Adviser Laura Boyle said: “Everyone’s different, which means the way you quit smoking needs to be your choice.

“It’s all about working out what’s right for you to increase your chances of quitting for good.

“It’ll only take a few days before you start to notice the effects – you will breathe easier and find physical activity less strenuous after just three days.”

Sheila Duffy, chief executive of ASH Scotland, said:“Stopping smoking isn’t always easy, but the good news is that there’s more free support available than ever. You can pop into a pharmacy for local, expert advice, or call Quit Your Way Scotland seven days a week on 0800 84 84 84 for advice and support.”

Stop-smoking services across NHS FV are supporting National No Smoking Day.

Call Quit Your Way Scotland free on 0800 84 84 84 (Monday-Friday 8am-10pm, and Sat urday and Sunday 9am-5pm), visit QuitYourWay.scot, call NHS FV’s Stop Smoking service on 01786 433293 or speak to a local pharmacist.
