Youngsters gain experience

-

Nine Central AC under 15s took part in the national indoor championships looking at learning and developing for the future as most of them were relatively inexperienced at this level.

Euan Wilbert was the only Central competitor to have previously won a Scottish medal.

But, having just stepped up an age group from under 13, he was up against older athletes.

Competing in the long jump, he set a new personal best of 5.07 for an excellent sixth place, just 11cm from the medals.

Molly Cornes was also in with a chance after making big improvements in high jump this season. She managed 1.48 but was unable to clear what would have been a personal best 1.53 so had to settle for sixth place.

In the 800m event Amy Cully was unfortunate to miss out on the final after running 2.34.69 in her heat. This left her ninth quickest with only the top eight progressing to the A final.

She did have the consolation of a place in the B final where she lined up alongside training partner Naomi Howlieson who ran 2.36.42 in her heat.

In the B final Amy was fourth and Naomi fifth .

Lois Burch was competing in her first ever national championships and started with the 60m hurdles where she finished fourth in her heat with 10.44, just missing her PB.

She then took on the 200m where she ran an excellent 28.77 to progress to the semi-finals. A place in the final proved beyond her but she can be proud of finishing 16th quickest out of 56 competitors.

Erin Miller was on form with a PB 9.13 in the 60m for fifth in her heat and another PB 30.30 at 200m. Ellie Ross also set a new PB 9.21 at 60m then a season’s best 2.49.83 in the 800m.

Finlay Marchant ran a new best in the boy’s 60m race with 8.90 then 30.49 at 200m.
