Striker Peter joins boss as monthly awards winner

-

Veteran striker Peter MacDonald and boss Dave Mackay have landed an awards double with MacDonald named Ladbrokes League Two player of the month and Mackay taking the manager of the month. The 37 year-old former St Johnstone, Dundee and Morton star blasted six goals in four fine wins in February to pull the Binos closer to Peterhead and Montrose. And despite Saturday’s defeat to the leaders, he still harbours championship dreams. MacDonald said:“I would love to win the title with this team – and we’ve hit form at just the right time. “Hopefully we can make a real promotion push in the final phase of matches. We should be safe enough for a play-off place but it would be terrific if we could take the title.” He has hit a purple patch playing as a lone striker with players either side of him in wide areas. Boss Mackay’s January signings of Darren Barr and Kevin Moon and the loan capture of Danny Jardine from St Johnstone have made a major impact and Andy Little is fit again.

Mackay said:“Darren had been a real calming influence, I played with Kevin so I know his qualities and Danny was a young player I knew from St Johnstone.

“They have improved us and some existing players have re-found their form.“Andy is like a new signing and gives us another option for the last quarter which is great.

“Peter MacDonald has been excellent for us – especially with his goals in the last four games. He only trains with us one night a week and he does his gym work on other nights because he knows what he needs at this stage of his career.

“We’ve got a busy schedule in March with two games a week but I think I’ve got the squad to handle it.”
