Pageant princess Erin is the model of kindness

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Kind hearted pageant princess Erin Mackenzie has been showing that tender years are no barrier to thinking of others.

The seven-year-old from St Ninians, who is a pupil at St Mary’s Primary School in Bannockburn, is currently a finalist in the Face of Scotland contest and is also the reigning Mini Miss Scotland Charity.

Mum Sasha Faichney says she couldn’t be any prouder of Erin for the things she does for others at such a young age.

“She really is an inspiration to me,” said Sasha, “and makes me burst with pride.

“She is such a fun loving little girl who adores singing and dancing and loves puppies.

“But she also does a lot of fundraising and charity appearances to support children’s charities, and also completed the Race for Life last year.”

One of her most recent competitions saw her win a prize of a weekend away at a log cabin - which benefited her poorly uncle.

“Her Uncle Alex had recently been in hospital with kidney failure and is on dialysis every few days,” said Sasha. “His wife had previously booked a weekend away for her birthday for them both but had to cancel due to Alex being unable to work due to his unexpected illness so this trip was such a godsend to them both.”

Erin first started entering the competitions a few years ago after her nana Jennifer Martin spotted a post for a charity pageant on Facebook. Erin entered and was crowned queen.

“She has since entered quite a few charity pageants, raising funds for various different charities.

“She decided to enter Mini Miss Scotland Charity, which was a great experience for her. She got to do lots of fundraising and appearances and also won the pageant.”

Since then she was named second runner up in her category in Crown and Glory Scotland despite it being her first try and being the youngest entrant.

She is currently raising funds for The Les Hey Dream Makers and Headway East Kent as part of competing in Face of Scotland and hopes to continue doing charity pageants and supporting those who need help.

“Erin is such a kind hearted little girl, “said Sasha. “She would do anything for anyone and is so loved by everyone around her. She been nominated for The Scottish pageant industry awards for Mini Natural Beauty and Mini Newcomer which is such an accomplishment.”
