Special musical evening atchurch
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Stirling is hosting a special concert on Sunday evening, March 25.
Stabat Mater is part of the Music for Passiontide programme and features arias and organ music with soprano Colleen Nicoll, mezzo-soprano Ulrike Wutscher and organist Alistair Warwick.
The 13th century Hymn to Mary, the mother of Jesus, portrays her suffering while she has to witness the crucifixion and death of her son.
Many composers have set the words to music, however Pergolesi’s composition for soprano and alto solo is often felt to be particularly emotional.
The concert marks the beginning of Holy Week at the Dumbarton Road church, which culminates in the Easter vigil on the night of Saturday, March 31.
The church is holding a series of concerts in 2018, the 140th anniversary of its present building and the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.
Admission on Sunday is free, although a £10 donation is suggested.
