Breach of bail thug is jailed

Man told to stay away from sister

- Court reporter

A thug who broke a bail condition by contacting his sister at her Stirling home has been jailed for a total of five months and 42 days.

Craig McEwan had admitted a charge of breaching a bail condition at Carolann McEwan’s Falconer Court home on February 3 this year.

He had been granted bail on December 23 last year with the condition not to enter Falconer Court or contact his sister.

The 32-year-old however had failed to comply with the condition by contacting Ms McEwan there on February 3.

McEwan had also been charged with assaulting his sister at the address on that date by chasing her and punching her, but his not guilty plea was accepted by Crown prosecutors.

McEwan however admitted charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at the Falconer Court address by shouting, swearing, uttering threats of violence and struggling with police officers who were there.

The yob had also attacked a police officer by headbutting him on the face.

His not guilty plea to a charge of hindering and obstructing police officers by struggling violently with them at Falconer Court on February 3 was accepted by the fiscal depute.

At Stirling Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff Derek Reekie sentenced McEwan to 42 days imprisonment on the charge of breaching the bail condition.

He was also given three months on the charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and five months on the charge of assaulting the police officer.

The three-month and five-month terms were to run concurrently and consecutively to the 42 days.

These terms in turn were to run consecutively to a nine-month prison term which McEwan, of Blythswood Drive, Paisley, received last month.

That custodial sentence was imposed for assaulting and injuring Carolann McEwan at her Falconer Court address on December 22 last year.
