Pop lacrosse day is a big hit
Pupils show off skills at tournament
Youngsters from across the Stirling area have been busy showing off their pop lacrosse skills in the last week.
The sport is a non-contact version of lacrosse aimed at primary schoolaged children.
Plastic headed sticks and oversized balls are used.
The Balfron Region Pop Lacrosse Tournament took place last Friday (March 23), with five schools competing to gain selection in the Scottish Championships next month.
The event, which is now in its 12th year, took place at Balfron High School – with Drymen Primary emerging victorious in the under-11 category after a hard-fought final against Killearn Primary.
Strathblane Primary finished third followed by Kippen and Balfron in fourth and fifth.
The most valuable player award went to David MacInnes from Drymen in recognition of his hard work, sportsmanship, skills and fair play.
In the open event Drymen came out on top after defeating Kippen in the final.
Strathblane again finished third with Killearn in fourth and Balfron in fifth.
The most valuable player award went to Caroline Schmautz from Kippen.
The McLaren and Stirling Region Pop Lacrosse Tournament took place at McLaren High School on Monday – with eight schools taking part. This is the first time many of the schools in this area have taken part in a pop lacrosse competition.
Allan’s Primary School came out on top in the under-11s after beating Aberfoyle in the final, and Gartmore Primary finished in third place.
Port of Menteith came fourth, Callander fifth, Strathyre sixth, Doune seventh and Deanston eighth.
The most valuable player award went to Jake Lazell from Port of Menteith Primary.
The top three teams from the under-11s events will compete in the Scottish Championships for a chance to represent Scotland at the British Championships in Sheffield this summer.
