Big Noise is set to hit the right note with the launch of this year’s Easter holiday club.

Young people aged 6-18 who play orchestral instruments can take part in the free event at Raploch Community Campus from April 9- 12.

Times are 9.30am to 12.30pm for primary school children and from 1-4pm for high school pupils. These can be flexible for advanced-level primary and intermediate-level high school children.

There will also be informal concerts on April 12 at 11.30am for the beginner and intermediate groups and at 3pm for the advanced groups.

The holiday club is now in its third year. David Munn of Big Noise Raploch said: “This is an excellent opportunity for youngsters, many of whom live in rural areas and who may not have experience playing in a large ensemble before, to have the opportunity to do just that, make new friends and meet people who are at different stages of their musical learning.

“Young people can also have fun taking part in musicianship sessions, singing games and during break times there are opportunities to get outside and play games.

“There are no specific entry requirements. We just ask that you indicate whether you think they would be best in either the beginner, intermediate or advanced ensembles.”

The closing date for applications is Tuesday.

Big Noise also run a holiday club in the summer, which will take place from July 9 to 12 at Raploch Community Campus.

Sistema Scotland, which runs Big Noise Raploch, this week paid tribute to José Antonio Abreu, founder of the original El Sistema in Venezuela, after he died at the age of 78.

Chief executive Nicola Killean said: “Maestro Abreu’s vision to use music as a tool for social change inspired the creation of Sistema Scotland.

“In 2012 we were honoured to welcome Maestro Abreu to Raploch, where we held an openair concert for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

“It was during this visit that Maestro Abreu extended a warm invitation to staff and children to visit El Sistema.

“In 2014 52 children from our Big Noise Raploch programme travelled to Venezuela, the birthplace of El Sistema.

“This was a life-changing trip that allowed for the development of international friendships, new horizons and valuable shared learning.”
