Epic poem reimagined in Macrobert premiere
A theatre production which charts Satan’s quest from the depths of hell to the Garden of Eden will premiere at the Macrobert.
Al Seed and Judith Milligan’s latest visual theatre opus ‘The Shadow of Heaven’ will be running at the venue this spring.
The hour-long show is described by organisers as an “explosive reimagining” of Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost.
It charts Satan’s journey from hell, through chaos, up to the Garden of Eden with the goal of bringing about the Fall of humankind.
There will be stunning visual theatre, sonic intervention and a live choral score.
The work is being premiered at the Macrobert on April 12 and 13, and director Judith Milligan, who is originally from Stirling, is looking forward to bringing the show to her hometown.
She said: “I am very happy to say that I am excited that my first directorial project in Scotland since I left to live in France will be in Stirling where I grew up attending many wonderful productions, and participating in many youth dance festivals at the Macrobert which greatly influenced my love of the arts.”
Prior to moving overseas Judith was a core performer with a number of groups throughout Scotland, and this production springs from the long-term collaboration with Seed.
There will be a discussion following the show which explores how the individual navigates choices in life, and asks the question – ‘how free is our will?’
Audiences are encouraged to stay, share their opinions and join the conversation.
Tickets for the show are £10.50, £8.50 concessions and £5.50 students.
