-

Wee County Vaulters enjoyed a successful time when the first equestrian event of the season took place last weekend.

Chelsey Gertenbach won the female three-star class vaulting on WH Bentley — lunged by Hannah Eccles — when action got underway at Ecclesmachan.

Kerri Brylka was first in the female junior two-star class with Mhairi Hume in second. Both vaulted on Captain Jack, lunged by Rebecca Norval. Katie Henderson was fourth on WH Bentley.

Katie and Kerri then joined forces to win the Junior Pas de Deux section.

The female junior one-star class resulted in a second place for Codi Hay, vaulting on Glaxtown Billy — lunged by Lisa Mercer.

Billy also carried Sally Henderson to first place in the child female one-star class and Ferne Smith fourth.

The canter/walk section-B class was won by Jennifer Cameron with Rhona Swan in second, Eilidh Bennett fourth and Michaela Hogg in sixth. All vaulted on Tylers Kernel, lunged by Clare Henderson.

In the walk/walk section-A, Lisa Cowan placed first with Karly Lesson fourth while in section-C Beth White was third.

These vaulters competed on Glaxtown Billy lunged by William Hume — his first time at a competition. They then joined together in the walk squad class, taking first place.

Success was also achieved in the walk Pas de Deux classes with Ferne Smith and Eilidh Bennett placing first in the open section and Sally Henderson and Codi Hay taking second. Michaela Hogg and Rhona Swan placed first in the confined class.

Six members of the club competed as part of the Scottish Equestrian Vaulting Team.

Kerri, Katie, Mhairi, Sally and Codi, along with Kyra Lennie, finished second in the junior squad competition, vaulting on Captain Jack.

These vaulters, Emma Leslie and the four club horses will now head off to the first international competition in Saumur, France, taking place over Easter weekend.

The club also confirmed that Hannah Eccles was awarded the HorseScotland Performance Coach of the Year 2017 at their awards’ ceremony for her work with the SEVT vaulters and international vaulters worldwide.

A spokesperson from the Scottish Equestrian Vaulting Team said:“Hannah is a fabulous coach and her constant help and support over the years has been amazing.”
