Litter patrol collects 25 bags of rubbish

- Robert Fairnie

Young footballers joined staff from two fast food restaurants on a giant litter pick.

Players from Stirling’s Carse Thistle 2009 side and their families helped a team from McDonald’s clear up the areas around Raploch Community Campus – filling 25 bags of rubbish in one day.

A total of 25 people gave up their time and armed themselves with bibs, bin bags and litter picks to keep their area tidy.

The initiative, which saw employees from the Drip Road and Murray Place McDonald’s outlets take part, was run in support of Clean Up Scotland’s Spring Clean campaign.

Local franchisee Elliot Jardine, who owns and operates the two McDonald’s restaurants involved, said:“It was terrific to have players from Carse Thistle FC and their families join us to clean up the Raploch Community Campus and the surrounding areas. As we get closer to the summer we look forward to doing more clean ups across Stirling.”

Keep Scotland Beautiful operations director Carole Noble added:“I am delighted that McDonald’s has agreed to support this year’s spring Clean Up Scotland campaign. As a brand it has been active in championing litter prevention activity for many years and teams from their restaurants already undertake up to four litter picks a day. “At a time when litter levels are at their worst in a decade, the support from McDonald’s crew members and customers will be invaluable in helping raise awareness of the litter that surrounds us .”
