Cash for women’s vote project

Communities across Stirling are being urged to apply for funding to help celebrate the centenary of women gaining the right to vote in the UK.

The Scottish Government fund makes £170,000 available for local and community based projects as part of the Vote Centenary Small Grant Scheme. Community groups can apply for small grants between £500 and £5,000.

Stirling MSP, Bruce Crawford said: “We’ve come a long way as a society since some women gained the right to vote 100 years ago. However, there is still much work to be done to reach gender equality in many areas and that’s why it is so important that we mark occasions like this centenary.

“The Small Grant Scheme is now open for applications and I would urge local Stirling communities to consider how they can mark this important anniversary as soon as possible.

“This funding from the Scottish Government will make sure that we pay a fitting tribute – not just through national events, but also through local projects – to the women who fought so hard and shaped the lives for future generations of women for the better.

“Events such as this anniversary are crucial for inspiring the next generation of women leaders, so I would encourage community groups across the Stirling Constituency to get involved in any way they can.”
