Nevis Ensemble eye a peak performance

-

The Nevis Ensemble is a 40-piece orchestra which will give 70 inspiring performances over two weeks across Scotland as part of The Glasgow 2018 Festival Fund Programme.

This will include a performance at the summit of Ben Nevis — weather permitting of course.

Jamie Munn is the co-founder and General Manager of the Nevis Ensemble and he’s been telling us more about the exciting and innovative plans for their concerts which will be taking place July 31 and August 13.

As well as Glasgow, The Nevis Ensemble will be visiting Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Highland, Argyll, South Lanarkshire, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, the Lothians and Inverclyde.

Jamie said: “This shall be Nevis’ first ever tour and we have partnered with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as organisations in London, Berlin and Amsterdam to draw together an orchestra of 40 players that will perform together in 70 concerts over two weeks, conducted by Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves.

“The peak of our efforts will be on August 6 when we shall take the orchestra to the summit of Ben Nevis for a full-orchestral performance.

“We love a challenge and this seemed to push the boundaries, whilst reflecting the Championships in terms of physical activity and achievement, we thought how better to reflect this in the arts by taking the orchestra up to the summit of Ben Nevis.

“For the musicians it will not only be a physical challenge of course, but artistically and logistically it will be quite tough.

“We are very excited for our first tour and we are using it as an opportunity to build strong links with arts and community organisations both here in Scotland, and further afield.

“We are already starting plans for 2019, which include a tour to the furthest reaches of Scotland from the Central Belt.”
