Add another string to your bow with classes

A series of music and art classes will be taking place in Stirling throughout the coming months.

Children and adults interested in learning something new, or honing their existing skills, can take advantage of a number of sessions running at the Tolbooth. For adults, knitting and crochet bee will give people the chance to get together to chat and swap patterns techniques and tips every Tuesday until June 26. Sessions will take place from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. All levels are welcome and no booking is required. Those interested in practicing their fiddle skills can book

Tolbooth & Cowane Centre

themselves in for a block of eight lessons on Wednesdays from April 25 and June 13, 7pm to 8.30pm. This is for fiddlers with some repertoire who can play at a reasonable pace and not beginners.

Ceramics sessions will take place in the Cowane Centre – with beginner classes running on Tuesdays until June 19, and intermedia­te classes on Wednesdays until June 20. There will be demonstrat­ions and tuition in a wide range of hand-built ceramic techniques.

For young people, traditiona­l music workshops will run at the Tolbooth on Monday nights – starting this week. Those aged from nine to 18 are invited along to try their hand at playing traditiona­l music for the first time, and develop and improve their performanc­e skills.

Stirling Youth Jazz Ensemble will take place on Monday nights, also for people aged nine to 18. Sessions will look at improvisat­ion, various jazz styles and performanc­e. Groups open to brass, wind, string and percussion instrument­s.

Pump Up the Jam, free songwritin­g workshops for those aged 11 and up, will be running at the Tolbooth for an eight week block. Songs will be recorded in the Tolbooth studio and showcased at a final live performanc­e. Runs from May 2 until June 20.

City Music Project will give teenagers the chance to improve their instrument skills, and practise writing and performing with others, while learning cover versions and socialisin­g.

And those interested in learning popular trad instrument­s such as fiddle, clarsach, guitar, accordion and whistle can get involved in sessions at the Tolbooth until June 16.

Art and ceramics sessions will also be running this spring for young people in the Cowane Centre.
