Respite holiday home plan takes step forward

Leasehasbeensigned

The building of a respite holiday home in memory of a much-missed Stirling teenager has taken one step closer.

Eilidh Brown sadly lost her fight against cancer in 2010, just days before her 16th birthday.

Since then her family have set up the Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund, with the aim of building a countryside respite facility for the use of terminally ill young people and their families.

Their initial £550,000 build cost target was reached in January – and the project has now taken another step closer after the lease was signed for the ground on which it is being built.

The land has been generously donated by Thornhill farmers Willie and Victoria Ferguson.

Gordon Brown, father of Eilidh, visited the office of legal firm Aberdein Considine to sign the paperwork – with lawyer Anthony Quin providing free legal support to assist with the development.

Gordon said: “This is another major step for us in making the home a reality, following us recently reaching the £550,000 build target.

“The builders are ready and raring to go and we are now just waiting for the final local authority consents to be granted by Stirling Council so that the works can start.

“We’re extremely grateful to Anthony for his guidance and expertise, and of course to all those who have supported us over the last few years.”

Mr Quin added: “Eilidh’s story will be a familiar one to many in the town and we were delighted to have the opportunity to play our part in helping the family.

“This will be an incredible facility once built and with the lease now in place, will provide invaluable respite to many children and their families in the local area for many years to come.”

Fundraising will continue for the running of the facility.
