Mixed fortunes for BofA club

-

Bridge of Allan Sports Club’s tennis teams suffered mixed fortunes in the opening round of Central Scotland League fixtures.

A strong men’s firsts overpowered Inchyra 8-4 at Minewood and skipper Colin Woodward was keen to praise his team.

“It was vital to get off to a winning start in Division One, particularly as defending champions, and we achieved that in convincing fashion,”said Colin.

Elsewhere at Kippen the seconds suffered a frustrating 6-4 setback in a match that was left unfinished when the floodlights failed as they found the step up to Division Two providing a reality check.

Skipper Callum Haig said:“We were very much in things and with a wee break here and there it might have been a different story.

“We also had some new partnerships out there playing for the first time with Jon Spinks and Nils Bunnefeld, Tom Collins and Fraser Laing and myself and Stevie McNally all paired for the first time.”

Meanwhile the ladies first team claimed a convincing 9-3 victory at Strathblane with their team of captain Clare Woodward, Vee Reid, Doreen Birnie, Jenny McKenna, Liz MacGregor and Anita Fincham. There was disappointment for the seconds who lost 10-2 to a strong Linlithgow team. Team was Terry Moran, Lois Cameron, Anita Smiley, Karen Robertson, Jane Cameron and Audrey Frame.
