Auction bid to raise cash for charity

- Alastair McNeill

A charity auction is to take place in Gargunnock next month to raise money for a retreat for families of children with cancer.

The fun family event called‘The Art of Gargunnock’is planned for the village’s community centre on Saturday, May 12.

Funds are for the Ripple Retreat which gives families of children undergoing treatment for cancer the gift of a holiday on the shores of LochVenachar.

Gargunnock Church members organised the event as part of the Year of Children and Young People.

Participants are asked to produce a piece of art work on their impression of the village.

The art works will be auctioned to raise funds and can be anything – a painting, photo, mosaic, knitting, jewellery, collage, poem, or a map.

Among the interesting items donated so far are old maps of Gargunnock and Leckie estates which have been revived, re-coloured and annotated by a resident of the village.

He said:“The originals are understandably a bit, tattered, brown, faded and not too generally accessible but the reproductions are bright and colourful with added explanatory text, sketches and photos to explain the history of the area and are now being made available for all.”

Gargunnock Church minister the Rev Andy Campbell said they have been delighted with the response to the auction.

The deadline for works is Saturday, May 5 at 31 Drummond Place, Gargunnock.

Tickets cost £8 for adults, £5 concession, £2 children and under twos go free. There will be £2 off the ticket price as a thank you if you donate an art work.

The ticket includes refreshments and a £5 bid towards any art work.

Tickets available at village shop.
