Green Routes On Sunday, April 29, Billy Carruthers, founder of Binny Plants and one of Scotland’s best horticultu­rists and nurserymen, will be at Green Routes where he will lead two free workshops. The first, from 11.30am will be on plant propagatio­n: from seed and by cutting and division. The second, from 1.30pm will be on caring for young plants. This will be an excellent opportunit­y to meet and learn from an expert and a warm welcome is extended to join at the Walled Garden, Gartmore House from 10.30am onwards. Refreshmen­ts, with delicious home-baking and a buffet lunch are included and accompanie­d children welcome. Bowling club The club opens on Sunday, April 29 at 1.30 for 2pm. Old and new members will be made welcome. All invited along on Mondays from May 7 at 6.30pm for fun nights and see if you enjoy bowling. On Sunday, April 22, members had a pleasant afternoon with the family and friends of the late Billy Steele. Billy had been president and greenkeepe­r for many years and the family donated a bench in his name. A nice afternoon tea and chat rounded off the day. Spectators are invited to come along and watch the bowling from Billy’s comfortabl­e bench. St Mary’s Scottish Episcopal Church Holy Communion on Sunday at 11.15am. On Wednesday, May 2 at 11.30am Holy Communion is in Killearn Kirk Session Room. Contact Rector Richard Grosse 01877 382887. Parish church Service on Sunday will be at the usual time of 11.15am with worship being conducted by Mr Dan Gunn. The following Sunday, May 6, there will be a joint service at the Port Kirk, with a starting time of 10.30am.

Chair Colin Cameron will be in Doyle’s between 10.30-11.30am on Thursday to meet anyone who can’t make the meeting and has anything they want to raise. Parish Church Sunday worship will be led by Mrs Margaret Baxter at 11.15am Tea/coffee will be available after the service. Prayer group meets at 7pm on Tuesday, May 1 at Fintry Kirk. Lunch club meets from noon on Thursday in the church rooms. Christian Aid Week is being held this year week commencing May 13. There is a need for more collectors.
