Dinosaurs, superheroes and Dracula on the way

-

This week the latest Marvel blockbuster - Avengers: Infinity War premieres in cinemas around the country.

Fans have been waiting for the latest instalment and after previous showings, the latest isn’t likely to disappoint.

The usual team of Avengers including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) have to enlist the Guardians of the Galaxy squad led by Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/ Star-Lord to tackle their latest foe Thanos, played by Josh Brolin.

He’s scheming to alter reality with the Infinity Stones so he can destroy mankind - so it’s up to the Avengers and Guardians to ditch their own super egos and take him on.

Infinity War isn’t the only superhero movie on screen this summer.

Coming soon is the man billed as the “world’s most unconventional superhero” when Deadpool 2 sees the eponymous character return to battle ninjas and metal men in the highlyanticipated sequel.

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is back and this time he’s got a whole new set of problems. Not only is he struggling to get to grips with life in an open relationship, but also finds himself battling a variety of new villains who range from ninjas to metal men.

Also fronting up is Ant-Man and The Wasp. Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang who struggles to juggle his role as father with his Ant-Man duties when he is assigned a dangerous new mission that sees him team up with The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly). The movie also stars Michael Douglas and Michael Pena.

Dinosaurs are still ruling the earth in the latest sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Chris Pratt takes a break from Guardians of the Galaxy role to return to his role as raptor trainer Owen Grady.

In Fallen Kingdom, a previously dormant volcano on the Isle of Nublar sparks into life and Grady goes to the island with Jurassic World operations manager Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) to save the dinosaurs.

It’s not all superheroes and dinosaurs and there are a couple of distinctly different comedies on the horizon.

The brilliant Maxine Peake plays a fictional female club comedian in 1970s Northern England determined to make her mark in comedy drama Funny Cow, written by former Emmerdale actor Tony Pitts and also starring Paddy Considine and Alun Armstrong.

In Book Club, four friends read Fifty Shades of Grey for their monthly book club, and begin to rethink their own love lives and decide to try to spice things up.

Diane (Diane Keaton) is recently widowed after 40 years of marriage, Vivian (Jane Fonda) enjoys her men with no strings attached, Sharon (Candice Bergen) is still working through her decades-old divorce, and Carol’s (Mary Steenburgen) marriage is in a slump after 35 years.

Two popular animations are also on screen during the summer.

In The Incredibles 2, dad Bob Parr takes a break from saving the world only to face up to his biggest challenge to date; managing the impressive superpowers of his baby son Jack-Jack while his wife is out busting criminals.

And in Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation, Drac takes a family vacation on board a luxury monster cruise, and ends up falling in love with the ship’s captain, Ericka. But there’s more to this mysterious woman than meets the eye.

See What’s On in the Stirling Observer every Friday to keep up to date with cinema screenings at both Vue and the Macrobert Arts Centre.
