Kids’ road safety film praised

-

School pupils in Kippen have been praised after producing their own campaign video promoting road safety.

The youngsters from Kippen Primary posted the video on social media, highlighting the dangers of cars speeding outside the school and they provided statistics about the effect of excessive speed.

The community in Kippen is currently campaigning for the introduction of a 20 miles per hour zone, in place outside the school during certain times, to be extended to the whole village.

In a letter addressed to pupils, Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford congratulated the young people for getting involved in the project.

Mr Crawford said:“There’s no need for traffic to be travelling faster than 20 miles per hour in the village and it poses a real danger to young people as well as other vulnerable residents in the local community.

“I’ve been campaigning with the local community to get the council to look into reducing the overall speed limit within Kippen.

“I know that, in response to these issues being raised, the council have committed to conducting speed surveys in Kippen and will use this to inform proposals for a village-wide 20mph zone.

“I’m delighted that Kippen Primary School pupils have taken part in this campaign video. This is not only an excellent exercise in engaging in a community issue, but is also addressing a very real problem in the Kippen area.”
