Huge potential for pump house development as land up for sale

-

A picturesque piece of Carron Valley land, with planning consent for a new contemporary house and redevelopment of an existing pump house to form a large family home, will go under the hammer this month.

Eight acres of land by the North Third Reservoir and the historic pump house built in 1931, with Art Deco styling, which sits to the north of the reservoir, will be up for sale in Edinburgh on Thursday, May 10 at SVA Property Auctions.

Businessman Graham Wylie, who bought the land from Scottish Water and has planning permission to convert the pump house into a home, said this week: “I believe the water treatment plant is the only one of its kind left in the country.

“It’s in a lovely setting with walks around the reservoir and cliffs.

“I have planning consent to develop the pump house into a large house and for a new modern, contemporary three-bedroom house with glass and zinc walls.”

However, Mr Wylie, who runs Auchenheglish Lodges on Loch Lomond, thinks the old pump house, a ten-minute drive from Stirling, also has potential as a tourist attraction.

He said: “I’ve also had enquiries about developing the property into a small distillery/visitor centre. With the Bannock Burn and Drumshogle Burn running through the grounds, that idea would seem to have potential.

“The site could also be suitable for additional holiday homes.”

The pump house closed in 1975 and reopened in 1989 before finally closing in 2000. It was sold into private ownership in 2006.
