Sheep attacked by Labrador in estate field

- Robert Fairnie

Four sheep were attacked by a Labrador at Kippendavie Estate near Dunblane.

Police are investigating the sheep worrying incident, which took place around 9.10am of Friday, April 13.

The black Lab was spotted chasing the animals around the field leaving them stressed.

And although there were no serious injuries four sheep had wool pulled from their neck.

Officers are looking to trace a woman who was seen with the dog at the time.

She is described as being in her late-40s, of slim build and with blonde hair. She was wearing a red jacket, black leggings and black boots.

After the incident she ran away with the dog in the direction of Bridge of Allan.

Inspector Donna Bryans said:“This is a delicate time of year with it being lambing season and we would remind dog walkers to behave responsibly.”

Police last year ran a campaign aimed at reducing instances of livestock worrying.

A dog chasing, attacking or simply being at-large in a field where there are sheep can have a catastrophic consequences for farmers and their animals.

If a dog worries livestock on agricultural land then the owner, or person in charge, is guilty of a criminal offence.

To protect his animals the farmer has the right to kill the offending dog, while the owner can be fined up to £1000 or made to pay a compensation order.

The local authority can also apply to have the dog destroyed.

Anyone with information on this incident should contact police on 101.
