Historic sites join ranks of the VIPs
Three historic attractions have been added to a special programme which aims to help people make the most of their visit to the area.
Doune Castle, Inchmahome Priory and Castle Campbell have become the latest members of the VisitScotland Information Partner (VIP) programme.
The scheme aims to harness local knowledge, warmth and enthusiasm to help visitors enjoy their time in Scotland and experience all that is on offer.
Currently more than 60 Historic Environment Scotland properties are included in the programme – providing face-to-face visitor information on things to see and do.
Doune Castle is best known by many for its starring roles in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones and Outlander.
Since appearing as the double of fictional Castle Leoch in the time-travelling drama it has enjoyed an increase in visitors of more than 90 per cent.
Inchmahome Priory, located on an island in the Lake of Menteith, was founded in 1238 and the monastery has links with names including Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scotland and Sir Walter Scott.
Last year it welcomed around 18,000 visitors.
Castle Campbell is a 15th century fortress which overlooks the Ochil Hills and was also visited by around 18,000 history-lovers in 2017.
Jim Clarkson, VisitScotland Regional Partnerships Director, said: “With its rich heritage and fascinating past, Stirling and Clackmannanshire has a vast range of outstanding historical sites.
“It’s great to see that three of these attractions have joined our impressive network of VIPs. There’s no doubt that the way in which visitors access information has changed dramatically in recent years.
“This new approach enhances and complements the many ways in which we provide information and ensures we are meeting the needs of our visitors.”
