League affected by the weather on the pitches

-

Wet weather and commitments elsewhere once again played havoc with last Friday’s James D Bilslandsponsored Forth and Endrick League fixtures.

Ongoing drainage problems at Blanefield led to the cancellation of their match with Balfron but with the pitch at Buchlyvie also badly affected by rain, the clubs were able to switch the game to Thornhill where the hosts celebrated with a commendable performance.

Goals from Steven Scott (2) and Bill Anderson gave the‘Hill a 3-0 win, their first league victory since they beat Fintry towards the end of the 2016 season.

The Killearn v Drymen meeting was expected to be tight and it turned out to be exactly that, ending as a 1-1 draw but it could have been different when Drymen’s scorer Logan Park hit the Killearn crossbar in the final minute.

Neither Kippen nor Deanston have as yet been able to play and their matches against Gartocharn and Gargunnock were cancelled.

The league goes on hold tonight (Friday) for the first round ties in the MacGregor Ferguson Cup. Deanston are scheduled to play Buchlyvie; Thornhill are at home to Aberfoyle and Gargunnock visit Gartocharn.

Tuesday sees the start of the League’s midweek fixtures.

Balfron are the odd team out with no game and this gives Gargunnock the chance to top the table at Blanefield.

Drymen are at home to Buchlyvie, Killearn go to Gartocharn and Thornhill and Aberfoyle reprise their Friday MFC fixture.

The remaining match should feature the as yet unknown quantities Kippen and Deanston.

Results: League - Buchlyvie Utd 0-3 Thornhill (played at Thornhill); Killearn 1-1 Drymen Utd; Blanefield Thistle P-P Balfron Rovers; Gargunnock P-P Deanston; Kippen P-P Gartocharn.
