- Alastair McNeill

Alva Academy’s new headteacher has received a warm welcome from pupils and staff.

Scott McEwan, previously depute head teacher at St Ninian’s in Kirkintilloch, succeeds Sharee MacKerron who retired from her post at the end of last term.

The 41-year-old began his teaching career as a probationer history and modern studies teacher in Wishaw before moving to posts in Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch.

Scott, from Cumbernauld, said this week has been made to feel part of the Alva Academy family.

He said:“My first impressions of the school have been extremely positive. Our young people are a credit to their families, and I am very impressed with the dedication of my colleagues and the fantastic relationship they have with our learners.

“My teaching career has provided me with experiences that affirm my belief that relationships are the cornerstone of a successful school community, and I will be working very hard to sustain these strong relationships at Alva.”

Clackmannanshire Council education spokesperson councillor Graham Lindsay extend“a very warm welcome”to Scott in his new role.

He added:“Scott has already seen the great work that is ongoing at Alva and throughout the education service to help ensure that high aspirations and positive outcomes are the expected norm for every young person in Clackmannanshire. I look forward to seeing the impact that Scott and his team have to help Alva Academy pupils reach their full potential.”
