Inspiring Pedal on Parliament

-

Stirling based Green MSP Mark Ruskell cycled almost 50 miles from his home in Doune to the Scottish Parliament for the recent Pedal on Parliament event.

Mr Ruskell was joined at the Stirling Cycle Hub by his party colleague Councillor AlasdairTollemache who also cycled the route to Edinburgh.

Pedal On Parliament asks all of Scotland’s politicians, from all parties, to sign up to a manifesto to make Scotland a cycle-friendly country for people of all ages and abilities.

Mr Ruskell said:“We had an amazing ride from Stirling to Edinburgh to join thousands of other cyclists at Pedal on Parliament and it was inspiring to hear speeches from school children to world record breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont, all asking for better cycle facilities and safer streets around Scotland.

“I’ve had a lot of support from the Stirling area for my bill to make 20mph the speed limit on streets where we live, work and play including from Kippen and Thornhill where communities are having to deal with a lot of bureaucracy to make their streets safer.”

CouncillorTollemache added:“Signage needs to be improved in the Stirling area as well as new cycling paths. There is still a major missing link between Dunblane and Bridge of Allan alongside the A9 which needs to be built so people of all abilities can travel safely between the two communities.’’
