In the money thanks to kind Round Table

Community groups share five figure sum

- Robert Fairnie

A host of community groups have been handed a welcome boost after securing a share of fivefigure funding courtesy of Stirling and Bridge of Allan Round Table.

The voluntary group hosted a special awards ceremony at the Royal Hotel in Bridge of Allan last week where around £15,000 was split between 27 groups and organisations.

Sports clubs, mountain rescue teams, dance troupes and rowing clubs from throughout the Stirling area were among those to receive a slice of the cash.

Each group was welcomed up on-stage before taking their cheque and talking to those in attendance about their cause and how the money will make a difference.

Each year the Round Table, for men aged 18 to 45, raise thousands of pounds through the running of events such as the Bridge of Allan Bonfire Night and Santa’s Sleigh Run.

All profits generated go towards Stirling area causes – with community groups invited to submit a grant application.

Round Table chairman Malcolm Cheyne said: “We were delighted to invite all the recipients to receive their cheque and were fascinated by the story each had to tell the hard work they do.

“The positive impact they have on our communities always leaves us speechless and motivated to raise even more funds next time.

“It becomes harder each year to choose who we can support financially but we are grateful we can contribute to those selected this year in some small way. We look forward to hearing how they continue to support such a varied cross section of our community.”

Ochils Mountain Rescue were among the recipients on the night.

Kevin Mitchell, who was representing the team, said: “We are very grateful to the Round Table for again supporting our cause from their wonderful fundraising efforts.

“This grant will enable us to purchase valuable first aid equipment that will primarily be used for hill rescues, but also

for resilience work in our local community.”

A spokesperson for the Round Table thanked the Royal Hotel for donating their facilities for the evening, and all members of the public who supported their events throughout the year.

Planning is already underway for this year’s bonfire night and an exciting music act is to be

announced later this summer.

The group meets every second Tuesday and is looking for new members. As well as fundraising members also try different sports and activities and attend whisky and beer festivals.
