Community choir holds first concert

-

Torbrex Community Choir holds its first concert of the year at St Columba’s Church on Saturday, May 12, starting at 7.30pm.

The popular choir, now with more than 40 members, was the brainchild in 2014 of Genevieve Graham, retired head of music at St Modan’s High School.

“I wanted to gather together people who enjoy singing,”said Genevieve,“and at the same time help local charities with the money raised at concerts.”

The choir’s repertoire, rehearsed every Tuesday morning at the church, is an eclectic mix of songs old and new that are eagerly awaited by regular concert-goers. On Saturday there are old school favourites“Marianina” and“Santa Lucia”.

The singers benefit from the help of accomplished pianist Liz Kinross.

Charities who have benefited over the years include Stirling Street Pastors, Research into Brain Cancer, Prostrate Cancer, Strathcarron Hospice, Chest, Heart and Stroke, Alzheimer’s Scotland, Scottish Autism (Struan House, Alloa), The Sandpiper Trust, Mary’s Meals, Stroke Ward at FVRH, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Stirling Citizens Advice Bureau.

The concert will benefit Stirling Young Carers and Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

Doors open at 7.05pm on May 12 with tickets priced £6 for adults and £3 for children (five to 12 years).

Anyone interested in joining the choir should come along to St Columba’s Church Hall at the start of the new session at 9.45am on Tuesday, September 4.
