Women in Stirling are being urged to pull on their trainers and enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life this weekend.

Almost 1000 women have already signed up to take part on Sunday, May 13, at The University of Stirling, but there are still spaces left.

Organisers are encouragin­g women to sign up to the 5k and 10k event right now at raceforlif­e.org.

Money raised will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives.

Jennifer Ewing, event manager for Race for Life in Stirling, said: “Every day, around 87 people are diagnosed with cancer in the Scotland. By taking part and raising money, our participan­ts will play a crucial role in helping to turn discoverie­s made in the lab into new, better treatments for patients in Stirling and across the UK.

“Every step, every person and every penny raised counts.

“Our aim is that one day everyone will beat cancer. The more women who Race for Life, the sooner we can help that day come.”

To enter visit raceforlif­e.org or call 0300 123 0770. Scotland’s only Parisian cafe band, Les Trois Blondes, are playing in concert at a Parisian Soiree in the Rural Hall, Doune on Sunday ( May 12) 7.30 for 8 pm.

Those attending are promised a programme featuring the music of Edith Piaf, Paul Trenet, Django Rheinhardt, Toots Thielmann and many others.

The line-up has John and George Burns on accordion with Fergus Wood featuring on drums and as raconteur. Dancers are welcome and tickets are £10 at the door.
