Towering performanc­es in Blackpool festival

Talented members of the Stirling New Figure Skating Club were among those in attendance at the Blackpool Ice Skating Festival recently.

The festival took place at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Arena where hundreds of skaters from across the UK competed during the four-day event.

Stirling skaters had a number of successes with 14 podium places, many of whom are members of the Stirling New Figure Skating Club coached at The PEAK by SNFSC coaches Rhiannon Scott, Gemma Chaddock, Pamela Dorans, Rebecca Hutchison and Fiona McGiff.

The competitio­n consisted of events for beginner level skaters up to NISA Level 7 standard. Each category was split by age and ability, with up to 30 competitor­s in some of the categories.

There were five medal winners in the Beginner Ladies age categories, with first place prizes going to Marnie McColl (age 8 category), Robynne Hendrix (age 11) and Millie Baker (age 13 and over). Mollie Chaddock (age 5 and 6) was second place while Nieve Deans (age 9) and Emma Kilpatrick (age 12) placed third.

Level 1 Ladies was another successful category with Zarah McAdam and Monica Kerr both winning first place prizes in their respective age groups (age 11 and 12). Second place was taken by Martyna Ozimek (age 12) and third by Demi Lee Stojanovik (age 10 and under).

Eilidh Thomson placed second in Level 2 Ladies (age 12 and over) and Level 3 Ladies Emma Dawson and Mackenzie Thomson won second and third place both in the age 13 and over category. GB squad representa­tive Brodie Sneddon (age 12), bagged first place in the Level 5 Ladies category.

Rhiannon Scott, Active Stirling’s Ice Developmen­t Officer, said:“It’s fantastic to see the success our skaters have had away from home and to bring back such great results is a bonus.”
