The revamped PEAK GYM at Stirling Sports Village was officially opened on Monday by two Stirlingborn sports heroes and athletes.
Team GB Basketball athlete Kieron Achara and Michael Wright, winner of this month’s 2018 Stirling Scottish Marathon, did the honours.
The PEAK is managed by Active Stirling on behalf of Stirling Council, and the new gym features a new layout, a bigger and new functional training space along with the latest cardio equipment and a new look in a new partnership with Life Fitness which also sees the introduction of the latest state-of-the-art treadmills, bikes and power mill climbers with new consoles.
Active Stirling also launched The PEAK HALO – a new fitness cloud powered by Life Fitness to help members and pay-as-you-go customers set fitness goals and track progress.
Active Stirling chief executive Andrew Bain said: “We wanted to bring new life to our gym and build on the successes of the last nine years. The gym at The PEAK has played a pivotal part in changing people’s lives by helping more and more people across the Stirling area, take part in regular physical activity and improve their overall health and wellbeing. It’s important we continue to provide an inspiring gym environment for them to do so.”
Michael Wright has been competing with Central Athletic Club for over 20 years and has many athletics, cross country, track and field and marathon accolades under his belt, including placing 60th in the 2015 London Marathon.
He also puts much of his time back into his sport through volunteering and has been secretary of the Central club since 2015. He was also awarded the volunteer of the year award by Scottish Universities Sport as a student in 2008-09.
Former Stirling High pupil, Kieron is a Scottish professional basketball player who currently plays for the Glasgow Rocks. Kieron played college basketball at Duquesne University, turning professional in 2008, and now represents Scotland and Great Britain at national team level. Kieron was the youngest player ever to play for the Scotland national team, featuring in the FIBA Europe Promotion Cup and made his debut for Great Britain in 2008, before proudly forming part of Team GB Basketball team which took part in the London 2012 Olympics.
Long standing member of The PEAK, Colin Black joined Kieron and Michael to mark the official opening. Colin is a regular gym user and has been attending The PEAK since it opened in 2009.
Also present at the opening were Provost Christine Simpson, Stirling Council leader Scott Farmer, and Councillors Martin Earl, Chris Kane and Danny Gibson along with Active Stirling’s chairman Ken Lewandowski.
