Cableway and climbing at kids’ park

-

New playpark equipment is to be installed at Donaldson Park in Balfron.

After a year of fundraising by Balfron Community Council the new equipment is to be installed next month.

The equipment is aimed at children aged eight and over. The existing fenced-off area for very young children will not be affected.

The new playground will have a double cableway, a climbing station made up of nets, ladders and bars, two climbing trunks, a double swing, a nest swing and oak block benches and boulders situated around the climbing station.

The community council also intend to put a new picnic bench near the swings.

The old equipment and picnic bench will be removed by Stirling Council during the last week of May.

New railings and a safety gate will be installed at the Spokers’ Loan entrance to the park.

Balfron Community Council chairman Colin Cameron said: “We’re delighted that after a huge amount of hard work and persistence from two members of the community council, Christine Wilson and Bill Noblett in particular, we’re finally getting new equipment for the older children’s play area at Donaldson Park.

“It’s an exciting new development and a much-needed addition to the community facilities.

“We’re also thrilled that our local artist and blacksmith Elspeth Bennie has created some lovely new gates for the park entrance which, as well as looking great, will improve safe access for families using the park.”

Christine Wilson said: ”We are focusing on providing more challenging equipment for older children to supplement our existing playground and I’m hoping that I will get a shot on the cableway as soon as it is installed.”
