Strathendrick 31 Loch Lomond 3

West League Division 2

Strathendrick secured backto-back league championship wins after victory over Loch Lomond wrapped up the West League Division 2 title.

A stunning run of form, culminating in Saturday’s 31-3 win, ensured they got their hands on the trophy.

Endrick overcame Birkmire by a stunning 76-0 scoreline just three days earlier, on May 9, to set up the chance to win the title last weekend.

They travelled to Bonhill knowing that a victory would be enough to lift the trophy – having already secured promotion to West League 1.

There was an early surprise however when the opposition scored first, from a penalty, in 11-minutes.

But the response was instant and in 16 minutes the scores were level when Kyle Campbell kicked a penalty after Loch Lomond were caught offside.

And while neither side were able to gain an advantage in the next 20-minutes, Endrick took control in the final five minutes of the half.

A sharp interchange of passing gave Andy Nixon an opening and he made the most of it, outpacing the cover to score at the posts.

Kyle Campbell casually knocked over that kick and another before the break when the ever-reliable Ewan MacKay added another try to his tally.

Three minutes into the second half and Nixon was again on the scoresheet with his second try, converted by Campbell.

And midway through the half Gregor Black started and finished a move which gave Endrick the try bonus and Campbell was again on target to take the score to 31-3.

After the match club captain Campbell was presented with the league trophy.

Endrick: B Anderson, G Black, F Graham, A North, S Ross, K Campbell, R Doyle, C Gibson, S Forsyth, M Scott, T Moore, M Calderwood, E MacKay, J Ogilvy, A Nixon and Q Taquet. Subs A Duff, J Eckersly, D MacEachern, R Martin,

T Moore, M O’Connell and L Pretorius.

Ahead of their final game Endrick;s record this season is 19 wins and two defeats in 21 games – with the defeats to Cumnock and Uddingston coming in the first two games.

On Saturday Endrick complete a very successful league campaign with an away match against Millbrae at Ayr.
