Joint effort for safety action
Politicians have joined forces in a bid to tackle road safety concerns in Crianlarich.
Stiring MSP Bruce Crawford (SNP) and local Tory councillors Martin Earl and Jeremy McDonald met with representatives from Transport Scotland at Crianlarich Village Hall alongside residents from the village on Monday.
The meeting was arranged in response to concerns raised about the speed of traffic coming into the village, with a number of residents also expressing anger at vehicles breaking the 30mph limit through the village itself.
Transport Scotland agreed to look at a number of suggestions that had been raised during the meeting, geared towards slowing down traffic coming into the village from the eastern side on the A85. These included vehicle activated speed signs and a 40mph“buffer zone”similar to that on the road into Strathyre.
Mr Crawford and councillors Earl and McDonald agreed to contact Police Scotland to ask for further speed surveys to be conducted.
“I am pleased that a constructive meeting was had,”said Mr Crawford, “and that Transport Scotland have agreed to assess and report back on the suggestions that have been raised.”
Councillor Earl said :“I would support any measures, including a speed activated sign and more attention by the police.“
Councillor McDonald added:“This issue has also been raised with the MP Stephen Kerr so we have all the councillors, MSP and MP all saying that something needs to be done to address the problem. The question is what are Transport Scotland going to do about it.”
