Exhibition up and running
Balfron Heritage Group members and official guests enjoyed last Friday night’s launch of the Balfron in Print exhibition – a joint venture between the Heritage Group and Balfron Library.
The display traces the history of the documents which follow Balfron’s history from a charter of Inchaffray Abbey in 1303 through the three Statistical Accounts of Scotland, Guthrie Smith’s Strathendrick, Buchanan’s Guide to Strathendrick, Andrew Dow Griffen’s My Own My Native Land, Ballindalloch by Sandy and Sue Stephen and Jim Thomson’s The Balfron Heritage.
Specially reprinted excerpts from some of these documents form part of the exhibition so that visitors can browse them at their leisure.
While Balfron Library would not be able to accommodate full classes of pupils, the use of the printed word as evidence is part of the Curriculum for Excellence and small groups of students of history can be made welcome. This can be arranged by contacting info@balfronheritage.org. uk or by phoning Balfron Library on 01360 440407.
Balfron in Print runs until the end of May during normal library hours and also includes some printing trivia panels – such as the origins of“minding your Ps and Qs”– as well as the chance to use a printing block of the exhibition logo to demonstrate how the art of printing actually works.
