New stop will serve residents
Bus service changes
A new temporary bus stop has been introduced to serve residents who were left devastated when a valued bus service was withdrawn from their street.
The Observer reported earlier this month that the C48 was no longer serving Rylands Road in Dunblane after concerns were raised about an “unsafe” reversing manoeuvre.
Stirling Council said that vehicles were struggling to get turned due to the number of parked cars on the street.
A number of residents spoke out against the decision – saying that a valuable service had been withdrawn from those who need it most.
The local authority confirmed this week that they have since listened to feedback from residents and a temporary stop has been put in place at the nearby junction of Ochiltree and Kippendavie Road to improve access.
This is set to remain while officers investigate the possibility of a new permanent bus stop on Kippendavie Road, close to the junction with Rylands Road.
Dunblane and Bridge of Allan councillor Alastair Majury met with council representatives last week to make the case for a new permanent bus stop.
Mr Majury also says that council officers have pledged to amend the C48 timetable so it aligns better with commuters returning from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
He said: “I am pleased that council officers recognise that moving Rylands Road stop to the bottom of Kippendavie Road was unacceptable to C48 passengers and are taking action to rectify this, along with their efforts to ensure that First Bus continue to make improvements to this service.”
A Stirling Council spokesperson said: “We have listened to feedback from residents and our officers are currently investigating the possibility of providing an additional bus stop on Kippendavie Road, near the junction with Rylands Road.
“In the meantime, a temporary bus stop has been put in place at the junction of Ochiltree and Kippendavie Road to help improve access to the bus for residents.”
Stirling Council are overseeing improvements to the service after a public petition highlighted complaints relating to reliability, driver attitude and poor condition of the vehicle. The C48 provides transport through Kinbuck, Dunblane, Stirling and Bannockburn.
