Salters Festival of Chemistry to McLaren pupils Arran McLoughlin, Connor Stewart, Carla Dimeo and Ciara Dillon who came second in the University Challenge at the Salters Festival of Chemistry. UKMT Junior Maths Challenge Congratula­tions to the following pupils for their success in the recent UKMT Junior Maths Challenge: Alastair Cantlay - Best in Year, Best in School, Gold award and invited to take part in the Junior Kangaroo round; Finlay Murphy - Gold award and invited to take part in the Junior Kangaroo round; Matthew Murray - Best in Year and Gold award; Andrew Twigg, Callum Bell, Catriona Manders and Tommy Scott - all Silver awards; Eve Hatton, Cameron Harvey, Kyla Abner, Robert Rawson, Freya Sherry, Rosalind Turnbull and Alasdair Banks - all bronze awards. Higher Biology Well done to Holly McNaught and Niamh Rennie who have been successful in their applicatio­n to participat­e in the Science Summer School organised by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS). Niamh will be based at Edinburgh Zoo while Holly will attend the summer school at the Highland Wildlife Park. Heather Jackson has been selected for a Nuffield research placement at the Institute of Aquacultur­e, University of Stirling. The Nuffield Foundation provides selected students with the opportunit­y to work alongside profession­al scientists in order to develop their skills and confidence in quantitati­ve and scientific methods. She will spend six weeks during the summer holidays at the university and take part in research into the environmen­tal impact of fresh water fish farming. She will be based in the water quality lab as well as getting an introducti­on to environmen­tal modelling. Congratula­tions
